- area of cross section
hope it helps you!!
❇ The above concept is based on heating effect of electric current and its Joules law of heating effect of electric current. So, let's know them one by one.
✏ First of all, Definition:
It is the effect of electric current passing through a conductor due to which heat is produced in a wire or conductor carrying the current. This is known to be as Heating effect of electric current and also known as Joule heating.
✏ How does this occur? What is the cause?
Whenever a conductor is connected at its end with a source like battery, the free electrons starts to move in a regular manner with drift velocity, this causes the current to flow through the wire. These electrons collide with the other positive ions and for the current to keep flowing, energy is wasted by the battery. This energy is then supplied to the ions, hence temperature increases and the ions moves more fastly. Hence, as a result heat is produced due to flow of current and this effect is known as Heating effect of Electric current.
✏ Joule's law of heating
Known as Joule's law of heating effect of electric current. It was founded by Joule, he found that whenever current passes through a conductor, it is: dep
- Directly proportional to square of current.
Where H is heat and I is the electric current.
- Directly proportional to resistance of conductor.
Where R is the resistance offered by the conductor, which resists the flow of current through the conductor.
- Directly proportional to time for which the current flows inside the conductor.
Where t is the time for which current passes through the conductor.
When, we combine all 3 of these equations, we get:
✝️ These are the factors of which the heat caused by the electric current flowing through a conductor. The heat is measured in calories or joules. 1 calorie = 4.18 joules.
