There are some major factor on which heat produced in current carrying conductor depends upon. Some of the major ones are: Resistance of the conductor: Heat produced in conductor is product of square of the current and resistance ie (P=I*I*R). So, higher the resistance of the conducting wire, more is the  loss in it.
