Mughal empire startex declining because of amny factors.
1. Aurangzeb had depleted the military and financial resources of his empire after fighting a long war in tge Deccan
2. It as difficult for the later mughal emperors to keep a check on their powrful mansabdars who gained extraordinary powers over vast regions of mughal empire.
3. As the governers consolidated their control over tge provinces, the periodic remission of revenue to the capital declined.
4. Mughal authority was being continuously challenged by rebellious groups who were now able to seize all the powers as the central power was weak after Aurangzeb.
5. The empire was further weakened by competition amongst different noble groups. They were divided into groups of Iranis and Turanis.

Answer:

  • The successive rulers after Aurangzeb were weak, unworthy and lacked the character, motivation and commitment to rule the empire strongly.
  • Aurangzeb’s policies made enemies of the Rajputs, Sikhs, Jats and the Marathas.
  • His frequent wars depleted the treasury.
  •  The raids by Nadir Shah, and repeated invasions of Ahmad Shah Abdali, resulted in further weakening of the empire.
  •   The already weakened empire faced further encroachment by the British and the French. The British and French, who had initially come as traders, took full advantage of the weakening empire and soon became masters of the whole of India.
