failures of Dalton atomic theory;

* it said that atom is the smallest and indivisible particle. but it is not
* failed to explain the existence of electrons, protons and neutrons I.e., subatomic particles
* failed to explain the affinity of certain atoms towards other atoms to form compounds
* failed to explain the existence of isobars
* atoms of same element may differ
* inability to explain the difference in the physical properties of compounds made from atoms of same element
* inability to explain the binding forces due to which the molecules exist

He used to fundamental laws of chemical combination that are the law of conservation of mass and law of constant proportion as the basis of his atomic theory.

Conclusion of Dalton's atomic theory : 

Atom is the smallest particle of an element which cannot be further divided and that retains all the characteristic properties of that element.

Some assumption and postulates of Dalton's theory are: 

• An atom cannot be further divided into still smaller particles.

• Atom can neither be created nor be destroyed in the chemical process.

• The atom of one element are different from those of any other elements.

• Atoms of different elements make combine in simple whole number ratio to form compound atoms of a new substance.

• All forms of matter are made up of very small discrete particles called atoms.
