Features of fungi :
- It's the unique Kingdom of heterotropic organisms.
- They show diversity in morphology and habitat
- They can be free living or parasites in plants and animals.
- They grow in warm, humid places
- They don't have chrolophyll or chloroplasts
- They can be saprophytic- those who feed on dead organic matter
- They can be parasitic:- those who obtain their food from living organisms
- Most of the fungi have mycelium, which is composed of hyphae.
- A very few fungi are unicellular and non-mycelial
- Their cell wall is made up of chitin
- Their cell wall also contains polysaccharides, proteins, lipid and cellulose in small amount
- Food is stored in the form of glycogen and oil
Examples:- Saccharomyces (Yeast), Rhizopus, Mucor
