The Himalayas, or Himalaya is a mountain range in Asia separating the plains of the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. The range has many of Earth's highest peaks, including the highest, Mount Everest (Nepal/China). The Himalayas include over fifty mountains exceeding 7,200 m (23,600 ft) in elevation, including ten of the fourteen 8,000-metre peaks. By contrast, the highest peak outside Asia (Aconcagua, in the Andes) is 6,961 m (22,838 ft) tall.

Their features are

(i) The Himalayan mountains are the youngest mountains in the world. They are folded mountains.

(ii) They run along the northern border of India and form an arc which is around 2,400 km long.

(iii) Their width is up to 150 km in Arunachal Pradesh and 400 km in Kashmir.

1) Himalayas are geographically young fold mountains covering the Northern border of India. The Himalayas Mountains have three parallel ranges of mountains namely The Himadri, The Himachal and The Shiwaliks. The Himadri is also known as the Greater or Inner Himalayas. It is the Northern most range of the Himalayas. The Himachal is located at the South of the Greater Himalayas. It is also known as Lesser Himalayas. Next is the Shiwalik range. It is also known as Outer Himalayas. 

2) The Himalayas is are the world's youngest mountains and also they form the world's highest mountain region. Himalaya Mountains has 9 out of 10 highest peaks in the world. Among these peaks, Mount Everest is the world's highest mountain peak (29028 feet), which is situated on the Nepal-Tibet border.

3) The Great Himalayas contains valuable forest of spruce, fir, juniper, birch etc. Alpine vegetation occupies higher parts of the Great Himalayas just below the snow line and includes shrubs, rhododendrons, mosses, lichens etc.
