Delhi Sultanate, refers to the various Muslim dynasties that ruled in India (1210–1526). It was founded after Muhammad of Ghor defeated Prithvi Raj and captured Delhi in 1192.

The monuments and buildings of Delhi Sultanate were built across 320 years by Khalji, Lodi, Sayyid, Tughlaq and Slave dynasties.

The Hindu-Muslim architecture introduced during this time used more geometrical shapes, inscriptions and caligraphy.

However, the architecture still remained influenced by Hindu architecture.

In addition to the square-plan mausoleums, octagonal plans were also used like the tomb in the Lodi Garden.
