Photosynthesis is the process with which green plants make their food. The leaves are the site of photosynthesis in plants. The leaves have features which helps them perform photosynthesis. They are:-
- Chlorophyll:- The leaves contain chlorophyll which helps them trap sunlight for photosynthesis.
- Stomata:- The stomatas help in the exchange of gases such as carbon dioxide and oxygen.
- The leaves also have a large surface area which allows more light to hit on their surface.

Leaves are adapted for photosynthesis by the following characteristics
- having a large surface area
- they contain openings, called stomata to allow carbon dioxide into the leaf and oxygen out.
These design features are good for photosynthesis, they result in the leaf losing a lot of water. This process of losing water is called transpiration.
