Summary. Energy, or the ability to cause changes in matter, can exist in many different forms. Energycan also change from one form to another. Forms of energy include mechanical, chemical, electrical, electromagnetic, thermal, sound, and nuclear energy.

Hey there!

Different form of energy :

1) Kinetic Energy : Energy by virtue of its motion is called as kinetic energy. An object that has motion, whether it may be vertical or horizontal motion, has kinetic energy. Kinetic energy depends on mass (m) of the object and speed (v) of the object. The equation used to represent kinetic energy is:

KE = ½ mv2

2) Potential Energy : The energy possessed by a body by virtue of its position & deformed shape is called potential energy.

3)Tidal Energy : Tides are periodic rise and fall of water level which is observed in lakes, rivers and seas. These tides occur because of the gravitational pull of the Moon on earth. The rise of water level is called the high tide and the fall in water level is called the low tide. As we know that rise and fall of water level around the vast seas and oceans have considerable energy associated with it, it may be used to generate electric power.

4) Ocean thermal energ : The thermal energy difference between cooler deep water and the warmer surface water of ocean can be used to run heat engine and produce useful work in the form of electricity. This thermal energy of ocean is called ocean thermal energy.

5) Heat Energy : It is the energy possessed by the body on account of its temperature and manifested as the random molecular movements. Heat Energy provides us the sensation of hot or cold.

6) Electrochemical energy : When we produce electrical energy from chemical energy is known as electrochemical energy. Most car batteries are operated on electrochemical energy.

7) Nuclear Energy : It is the energy released by combining of nuclei of atoms or by decay of an unstable radioactive nucleus during a nuclear reaction i.e. during fusion or a fission.

8) Sound Energy : It is the energy possessed by sound waves travelling through a medium as a longitudinal disturbance and when hitting our hear give us a sensation of hearing.

9) Wave energy: Ocean waves are generated by winds as they blow across the sea. Waves are a powerful source of energy. Electricity can also be produced from wave energy. At a wave power station, waves cause the water in the chamber to rise and fall, which means that air is forced in and out of the hole located at the top of the chamber. A turbine placed in this hole is turned by the movement of air rushing in and out. The turbine turns a generator to produce electricity.
