A salt bridge is a u shaped tube attached with cotton plugs at each end .

It is filled with a mixture of agar agar solution and  inert  electrolyte like

KNO3,KCl,

It is placed inverted into these solution.

Function :

--->It helps  in completing the inner circuit

--->It prevents  the diffusion of electrolytic solutions in two half ells.

-->To maintain electrical neutrality of the solutions in the two half cells

Electrochemical cell which is a part of the Electrochemsitry and the Redox reaction  is a vast topic to study in detail. Salt Bridge used in his cell is one of the important material without which the process of electrolysis cannot be possible.

Salt Bridge is an inverted U-tube filled with an concentrated solution of Inert Electrolytes.

Function of the Salt Bridge are ⇒

  1. Salt bridge connects the solutions in two half cells and completes the cell circuit.
  2. Salt Bridge keeps the solutions in the two half cells electrically neutral.

Hope it helps.
