What are the functions of the ovary, oviduct, and uterus?

Ovary:- it produces eggs for fertilisation.

Oviduct:- it is also known as fallopian tube in which fusion of male and female gamates takes place.

Uterus :- it is also known as womb in which development of baby takes place.

FUNCTIONS :

  • Ovary :

→ It produces egg for fertilization.

→ It secretes estrogen and progesterone.

→ Estrogen regulates secondary sexual characters.

→ Progesterone controls the thickness of lining of the uterus.

  • Oviduct :

→ It is the site of fertilization and carries egg or fertilized ovum ( zygote ) to the uterus.

or

→ Transfer of female gametes from the ovary and it is the site of fertilization.

  • Uterus :

→ Implantation of the zygote , nourishment of the developing embryo.

or

→ It helps to nourish the fertilised ovum that will develop onto the foetus . It holds the baby till it is ready for birth.
