The functions of the stomata :

  • Stomata are unique structures present on the surface of the green leaves in plants.
  • The main function of stomata is to aid in the exchange of gases in the leaves of the plants.
  • They act as the passageway through which carbon dioxide comes in and the oxygen, that is formed as a by-product of photosynthesis go out.
  • Stomata, therefore, acts as the main instrument without which photosynthesis would not have been possible. Though stomata are majorly present in the leaves, but for succulents stomata are found even in stems of plants.
