What are the halogen derivatives of alkanes and arenes?
Answers
Halo Alkanes.
Halogens derivatives of Alkanes are called as Haloalkanes.
Alkane + Halogen ----- HaloAlkane + HX
where X is the Halogen.
This is the basic method of the preparation of Halo Alkanes in presence of sunlight. This reaction is showing the substitution property of the Alkanes.
Name of Halo Alkanes are ⇒
Methyl Chloride (Chloro methane), Ethyl Chloride (Chloro ethane), Propyl chloride (chloro propane), etc.
Chloroform, CHCl₃ is also one of the Halo Alkanes which is produced by the substitution react of methane with chlorine.

Halogens attached to the Arenes or Aromatic Hydrocarbon is called as the HaloArenes.
For example,
Chlorine attached to benzene is called as Chloro Benzene.
Bromine attached to benzene is called as Bromo Benzene.
Iodine attached to benzene is called as Iodo Benzene.
Also, in different positions, if two or more Halogens is attached then, IUPAC Rules are followed for nomenclature.
Hope it helps.
Explanation:
When one or more hydrogen atom of aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon are replaced or substituted by corresponding number of halogen atom (chlorine, bromine, iodine) the resulting compound are called halogen derivatives of alkanes or arenes.
