Short circuit happens when there is high voltage across any weak electrical appliance or there is a wrong connection in wiring. A large current flows in the wires and they burn due to large amount of heat generated.
Due to high temperatures, it is possible that the wires catch fire. Then some nearby things may catch fire and burn too.
Harms are that the circuit and wires are destroyed. The wiring and fuse needs to be done again. The electrical equipment or appliance is burnt. So it has to be replaced/repaired.
If a person is touching the faulty equipment or appliance at the time of short circuit, then he/she may get a shock. There is destruction of property. Not only that house suffers, the power supply to nearby houses may be also switched off.
When there is fire then the fire extinguishing services have to be called in. There is a lot of smoke in air. Pollution of air results. A lot of water is to be used to put off the fire. So people's time, resources and property are wasted.
