Factors favouring formation of ionic bond
1. one of atoms (metal)must be have low ionisation energy so that it is easily to loses its electron
2. The other atom (non-metal) must have the capacity to hold the extra electron .i.e, it must have high electron
3. one of atom (metal)should be large in size.
4. one of atom (non metal) should be small in size .
5. combining elements should differ by at least 1.9 in electronegative
6. The electrostatic attraction between charged ions in crystal , i.e, lattice energy of the crystal should be high .
7. The cation and anion should have inert gas electronic configuration.
