Identity

Value of the variable in it, is called an identity.

Thus,(a + 1)(a + 2) = a² + 3a +2 is an identity. An equation is true for only certain values of the variable in it. It is not inall values of the variable.

For example, consider the equationa? + 3a + 2 = 132It is true for a = 10, as seen above, but it is not true for a = -5 or for a = 0) etc.

Show that a² +3a +2 = 132 is not true for a =-5 and for a = 0.
