in the term of geography the legend are use in map for difference between the different areas like if a map is given of India describing about rainfall so in legend there will be blue for 80-200cm for those area who received 80 to 200 cm of rainfall but it is not necessary always that it should be blue only it can be red also or any colour it depends on your choice but in some cases it is compulsory to give blue colour or other depending on the features
