Miep Gies was Mr. Frank's secretary before the war. She helped in hiding Anne's family and others in the Secret Annex. When the Franks were arrested, Gies tried to bribe the German officers to set them free but unfortunately, he failed. Her act was too bold as this would have led her getting killed. She was the one who found Anne's diary and kept it safe until Frank returned from the concentration camp. She was humble and gentle. She did things which were correct and not to gain anything from them.
Anne and Margot are the two daughters of Mr. Frank. Anne was spunky and confident. She very well knew that she was smart and intelligent. She spoke off whatever was in her mind even if it would let her into an argument. She is also much more independent. She wanted to spend time alone thereby releasing her fears and frustrations on the paper. Margot, on the other hand, was very different from Anne. She was quiet, humble and good manners. She had a very good relationship with her mother. At times, she used to be so quiet that people thought that she was not present there.
Alfred Dussel was a dentist who was in his late fifties. He joined the Franks and the Van Danns in the Secret Annex. Anne shares her room with him and thus she often is with odds with him. According to Anne, Dussel was petty, self-centered and was slow in doing things. He spends much of his time in writing letters to his girlfriend Charlotte who was a Christian.
Otto Frank was the father of Anne Frank. He was the one responsible for the publication of the Anne diary. In 1933 when Hitler came into power, Otto Frank along with his wife and two daughters escaped Nazi Germany. They lived peacefully in Amsterdam. But in 1940 when Nazi Germany invaded the Netherlands, their life came upside down. He was the only annex resident to survive the evils of the Holocaust. When he got Anne's diary he decided to publish it as 'The Secret Annex' in 1947.
Mr. Van Daan is the head of the family which is hiding in the annex with the Franks. Earlier, he used to work with Otto Frank in Amsterdam. Anne named him Mr. Van Daan. As per her description about him, he was a reliable, strict, honest, and sometimes egotistical in nature. He desires to retain more food to himself rather than giving it to his family. He expresses his mind honestly, mainly when he debates with his wife. In real life, he died in one of the concentrations camps in the gas chamber at Auschwitz.
Peter Van Daan was the son of the Van Daans. He was a teenager. He real name was Peter Van Pels. Anne at first thought that Peter was an obnoxious, lazy and hypersensitive boy. But when they became good friends, Anne found that he was a quiet, honest, timid and sweet person. They develop some romantic attraction between each other. Mr. Frank opposed this relation. For the first time, it was Peter with whom Anne had her first kiss. He died on May 5, 1945, at the concentration camp at Mauthausen.
