Electromagnetic wave theory was successfully in explaining of property of light such interference, diffraction etc. But it could not explain the following
1. The phenomena of blackbody radiation
2. The photoelectric effect
3. The variation of heat capacity of solid as a function of temperature
4. The line spectra of atom with specific reference of hydrogen.

Limitation of electromagnetic wave theory are as follows :
1. It deals with only wave nature of particle
2. It do not give any explanation regarding photoelectric effect and black body radiation phenomena.
3. It is applicable to macroscopic particles only
