(a) For the acidic or basic properties, the presence of water is absolutely necessary. Dry shall not act as an acid. is regarded as an acid only when dissolved in water and not in any other solvent.

Answer:it fails to explain the oxidic nature of substance like CO2 and SO2. which do not have hydrogen and similarly it also fail to explain the basic nature of substance like NH3 , CaO, MgO etc . which do not have OH group it fails to explain in the acidic or basic behaviour of substance in solvent other than water such as anmonia , alcohol etc . the theory fail to explain why electrolyte like netric are completely a in aqueous solution whereas the weak electrolyte like acetic (CH3COOH) are iconized too small extent only
