What are the main advantages and disadvantages of pictographs???

Advantages of pictographic/ideographic: 
- A single character can carry the meaning of an entire phrase, or multiple meanings depending on context 
- Ease of reading, when you're well versed in the meanings, then you can string ideas together more quickly from a text 
- If the pictographs represent everyday things that everybody knows, it may be easier to learn to understand the language on the more basic level 

Disadvantages: 
-Very very steep learning curve, it could take you forever to learn and understand it all 
- Ambiguity , something may mean one thing to one person and slightly something else to another, its open for wider interpretation ( in which case its an advantage in poetry and things of that nature)
