Here are some causes according to me,

1. People dont have driving discipline. They over take and try to go ahead from small spaces
2. They drive too fast and crash with someone with bigger vehicle badly. If you are driving slow and crash with someone you dont get severe injury your injury would be minor.
3. Drink and drive. Common cause, I don't need to explain this as you might know this well
