1. the modern periodic table has eighteen vertical columns, comprising of groups.

2. elements of sub group are known as main group elements.

3. elements in the zero group are called noble gasses because they are owing stable electronic configuration.

4. the 1st period contains two elements and are known as shortest period.

5.the second and third period contains eight elements each and are known as short periods.

6. the 4th and 5th periods contain eighteen elements each and are known as long periods.

7.the 6th period contains thirty two elements and are known as longest period.

8. whereas, the 7th period is an incomplete period yet.
