HUMAN BRAIN

Three main parts:

1. Fore Brain

2. Mid Brain

3. Hind Brain

• FORE BRAIN

Parts: Cerebrum, Hypothalamus

Cerebrum: It is the largest part of the brain and is composed of right and left hemispheres. It performs higher functions like interpreting touch, vision and hearing, as well as speech, reasoning, emotions, learning, and fine control of movement.

Hypothalamus: It controls certain metabolic processes and other activities of the Autonomic Nervous System. It synthesizes and secretes neurohormones, often called hypothalamic-releasing hormones. These hypothalamic releasing hormones control and regulate the secretion of pituitary hormones

• MID BRAIN

Mid Brain mainly acts as a control centre for reflex actions and serves important functions in motor movement, particularly movements of the eye, and in auditory and visual processing.

•HIND BRAIN

Parts: Cerebellum, Pons, Medulla Oblongata

Cerebellum: is located under the cerebrum. Its function is to coordinate muscle movements, maintain posture, and balance.

Pons: It is involved in the control of breathing, communication between different parts of the brain, and sensations such as hearing, taste, and balance.

Medulla Oblongata: It controls coughing, sneezing, swallowing and vomiting.
