Answer:

The main means of irrigation in different regions of India are wells, tube wells, tanks and canals.

Explanation:

Tanks : In the lowlands, rainwater collects in cisterns and ponds. This is probably the oldest irrigation method in India. This irrigation method is used on the Deccan Plateau and in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Huge tanks were built to irrigate the land. About 12 percent of Indian farmland is tank-irrigated.

Wells :Rivers and creeks wash away much of the rainwater. The soil absorbs part of the water. It continues to accumulate in the hard bedrock underground. Wells and tube wells bring this groundwater to the surface. A wide and deep hole is formed  on the surface of the earth down to the water level. These are called artesian wells. The water collects in the fountain.

Tube Well :This is the means of irrigation in the flat areas of about 40 percent of the country. A deep hole is formed in the earth's surface down to the groundwater level. A pipe or  tube is fixed in this hole. To pump  water through this tube or pipe, an electric pump or a diesel pump is used. It is known as a tube fountain. In the Ganges Plains or the Northern Fertile Plains, this is the most commonly used irrigation method. Canals are used to irrigate the soil in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and North Rajasthan.

Dams: Dams are huge, raised walls built across  rivers to hold back water. The river water accumulates in the form of a lake and, if possible,  is taken through canals to irrigate the fields.
