the Chipko movement was launched in the 1970 . in Hindi the word Chipko means to stick or to hug.its objective was to protect and conserve trees and forests from being destroyed .the villagers used to have the trees in order to protect them from woodcutters who came from many lumber companies it was a strong uprising against the lumber man who were taking away the livelihood of the local villages by cutting down the forest .in the process there also destroying the natural resources of the forest does disturbing the whole ecological balance. the goal of the movement was to prevent commercial felling of trees to protect livelihood and environment
