The Right to Education (RTE) or the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act of 2009 came to effect on 4 August, 2009. With this Act, India became one among the 135 countries, where education is the fundamental right of every child.
The Act provides for free elementary education in government or government supported schools. The government or local administration has to provide admission and the facility to complete elementary education, for all children in the age group of 6 to 14 years. Sufficient number of teachers, are to provide the necessary support and motivation to children studying in such schools.
