Being the largest mountain range in the world, the Himalayas provide very important natural qualities that effect the people living in that specific part of Asia. Firstly, they form a climatic barrier which section India and South Asia from Central Asia and North Asia which means that winds prevailing off Central Asia will be unable to travel over the Himalayas and onto South Asia and India. They also prevent heavy monsoon rains from travelling over the Indian Ocean to North India.

The Himalayas also mean that there is lots of heavy forests and vegetation sloping down as you can see in the picture below. There are many different types of trees growing in these forests. These obviously provide a good source for wood and timber but also gives good shelter for many types of beautiful birds and wildlife.

Perhaps the most useful natural quality for humans that the Himalayas provides is that it is a steady, reliable water source across Northern India. In the summer when it scarcely rains, the snow on top of the mountains melts and fills lots of rivers with water which is also used for producing electricity. When the water streams down the mountain, it makes the soil there very fertile and good for growing crops in-this is very important to the farmers that live in the Mountain Ranges!
