There are four main types of plastids:

1 Chloroplasts.

2 Chromoplasts.

3 Gerontoplasts.

4 Leucoplasts.

These are only the major ones there are further more....

The plastid is a major double membrane organelle found, among other, in the cells of plants and algae. Plastids are the site of manufacture and storage of important chemical compounds used by the cells.There are four types of plastids ----

chloroplast,
chromoplast ,
gerontoplast ,
leucoplast .

CHLOROPLAST are responsible for photosynthesis. It is filled with thylakoids..

CHROMOPLAST is a place for the pigments to be stored and synthesized in the plant . These are found in flowering plants.

GERONTOPLASTS are basically chloroplast. These ate beginning to convert into different organelles.



LEUCOPLAST are non pigmented organelles. They have no colour at all .
