What are the major similarities between pre Colonial and post-Colonial system in nigeria
Precolonial politics was local, “indigenous” and not very effective, especially militarily. Most such rulers were primarily worried about being assassinated - that is, internal discontent. So they retreated to their Harem, and tried to keep “family” in check. Politix was a matter of local warfare and palace revolution.
When Europeans arrived, they started softly, but carried a big stick. Did trade deals. The politix became transoceanic, and increasingly bureaucratic. Then came the industrial Revolution, and colonies were fitted into a global trading jigsaw puzzle - where before they tended to be autarchic. But the same people, families, religions, farms, live stock, food stuffs, climate, textiles, clothing, architecture, roads, rivers, and so on tended to continue. with changes, but awfully slow. The new colonial governments knew they were in a strange land, and the safest thing to do is to make as little commotion as possible - just the bare necessities. The more you try to change things, the more the chance that you will stir up a hornets’ nest, which is not appreciated back “home”.
