Merits of democracy is that where people choose their own candidate for vote and demerits is democracy rule not follow by everyone

Merits of Democracy

(a) Democracy looks after the welfare. of all. The society as a whole benefits under democratic system. It looks after the interest of the masses.

(b) Democracy is based on equality where all citizens are treated without any discrimination based oh caste, colbur, creed, sex or wealth.

(c) There is no danger of revolution in democracy as it is based on public.opinion. Democracy is a strong, and a responsible government which provides liberty of thought and expression, freedom to form association and even to criticise the government which is essential for the self-expression and development of life.

Demerits of Democracy

(a) Democracy is an expensive government by the rich which usually turns into dictatorship of the majority.

(b) The elect'ed leaders in democratic form of government are ' generally incompetent/ unintellectual (ignorant), who put emphasis
on quantity rather than on quality and rule the educated intellectuals and learned. *

(c) Democracy is an unstable and weak government as elections are held frequently and the persons elected are bound to face the masses again. Thus, the government changes frequently and due to election representatives cannot work fearlessly with a strong hand.
