Merits of Democracy

1. Democracy provides an efficient and responsible system of government. Public control and responsibility makes the government highly efficient. It also induces the people to become more disciplined citizens.

2. It promotes the interest of the common man better than any other form of government. The representatives have to fulfill the interests of general mass so as to gain public support.

3. Democracy has great moral and educating value. It helps on improving the moral standard of the people. Democracy is rhe active school of character building.

4. Democracy averts violence because it makes peaceful and constitutional changes possible. If people are dissatisfied with the government they can change the same through exercise of ballots and voting to power a party which is likely to promote their interest better.

5. Democracy promotes the spirit of patriotism among the people by making them feel that they are an integral part of the government.
