Explanation:

Diagrammatic representation of data has become very much significant in the modern time because of the following points of its merits:

(i) They are attractive: Diagrams, per se, are very attractive as they delight the eyes and appeal to the mind of the people in general. Because of this, they are vaguely used in meetings, conferences, fairs, exhibitions, and other public function. Moreover, facts stated through figures look tense, dry, and boring, and facts represented through neat and colourful diagrams impress the people very much.

(ii) They are easily intelligible: Figures, generally, are not easily, and readily understandable by a man of ordinary prudence. But a layman can very well understand the significance of a diagram without taxing his brain. Because of this, people in general, while reading books and journals usually skip over the figures and search for the picture, or any other form of diagram.

(iii) They are highly impressive: People in general have a craving, and love for beautiful pictures, and for this, they see them with rapt attention and care. As such the diagrams create a more lasting effect in the minds of people. Moreover, the diagrams are very much catching and impressive, and for this only, the modern advertisements are mostly made through beautiful diagrams and pictures.

(iv) They are easily comparable: Comparative study of a problem brings out its many hidden facts, and relationship, and also aids to analytical thinking, and investigation. Comparison of the data relating to different time, or situation can be easily made with the help of appropriate diagrams without much efforts.

(v) They save much time and energy: It is said that time is gold, and it should not be flittered away. Similarly, energy implies labour, and efforts which cost very much to any project. Analysis and intespretation of a problem through figures need much time, and energy. But no efforts are necessary to understand the crux of a problem through a diagram. Hence, diagrams save much time, and energy which are otherwise needed for drawing conclusions from a set of figures.

(vi) They are very much helpful in various types of studies: Because of their simplicity, diagrams are used in many types of fields viz. commerce, economics, social science, politics and administration etc. Different economic theories are analysed through diagrams and graphs. Business data of huge amount are readily understood by a businessman when they are presented through a suitable diagram. Thus, all types of people make use of diagrams in analysing their respective problems with the least possible efforts and time.
