Answer:

The book ‘Deep Water’ was written by American lawmaker and politician William Orville Douglas (1898 – 1980).

The two misadventures he mentions in the book are, once when he had gone to the beach with his family, he was swept over by a sea wave which bred in him an intense fear for water. This happened when he was a little boy.

Later on, after a few years when he was standing by the side of a swimming pool, he was pushed into the water by a bully. This prank almost cost the author his life, but some other boys pulled him out of the pool and saved him.

However, through sheer determination and courage, at a later time, he learnt swimming from an instructor.

Answer:

William Douglas speaks about the 'misadventure' which happened at the YMCA swimming pool when he was about ten or eleven years old. A big bully threw Douglas into the deep end of the pool when no one was around.

As Douglas realised that he was drowning, he made several attempts to save himself, but all in vain. Finally, he felt that he would die and then he lost consciousness. When he gained consciousness, he was lying outside the pool. Apparently, somebody had rescued him.
