Answer: MULTIPURPOSE RIVER VALLEY PROJECT ARE BASICALLY DESIGNED FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF IRRIGATION FOR AGRICULTURE & ELECTRICITY TROUGH THE CONSTRUCTION OF DAMS . INITIALLY DAMS WERE BUILT ONLY FOR STORING RAIN WATER TO PREVENT FLOODING BUT NOW IT BECOME MULTIPURPOSE.
DAMODAR VALLEY COOPERATION WAS SET UP IN THE YEAR 1948 UNDER THE ACT OF PARLIAMENT. THE PROJECT WAS TO BUILD A DAM ACROSS THE DAMODAR VALLEY WHICH WAS THE JOINT VENTURE BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA & THE STATE GOVERNMENT OF WEST BENGAL AND BIHAR.
