The deltoid stabilizes shoulder, the biceps brachi contracts to bring arm up while the triceps extends to allow arm to move. When the bat is raised, the biceps brachii and triceps both contract to stabilize the elbow and prevent any movement. The swing begins with the load, the transfer of weight to the back legs.
