Politics and ethnic and religious sentiments

Explanation:

Northern Ireland has witnessed ethnic conflicts as the population is divided into two major sects of Christianity, Protestants and Roman Catholics. Among the two groups, the Catholics joined the nationalist party and demanded that Northern Ireland should be unified with the Republic of Ireland which was already a Catholic country. But Protestants joined the unionist party which wanted the country to remain UK, a country which is already Protestants. This conflict of opinion led to the these two parties killing many people, including militants and security forces. After the massive conflict, in 1998, the UK government and the Nationalists signed a peace treaty.

From the above example, we can understand that politics and social divisions should not be mixed with each other. If social divisions exist in a country, it should not be expressed in politics.
