Action and reaction forces were explained by Newton in his 3rd law of motion. He said that action and reaction forces can never neutralize each other and always act on two different bodies. To neutralize each other they must act on same body

Aim :
To show the action and reaction forces acting on two different objects.
Material required :
Test tube, rubber cork cap, Bunsen burner, laboratory stand and thread.
Procedure:
- Take a test tube and fill it with a small amount of water.
- Close its mouth with a rubber cork cap.
- Using two strings, suspend the test tube horizontally from a stand.
- Using a bunsen burner, heat the test tube until the water vapourizes and the rubber cork cap blows out.
Observation:
- Observe the movement of the test tube when the cork cap blows out.
- The test tube recoils back as the cork cap blows out in the forward direction.
- We can see that the velocities of the cork cap and the recoil of the test tube are the same.
Precautions :
- Suspend the test tube horizontally from the stand carefully.
- Heat the bottom of the test tube where water appears. Otherwise the test tube may break.
