Answer:

The thermal power plant has serious impacts on land , soil, air and various social impacts the thermal power plant are also said to emit large amount of mercury and generate large quantity of fly ash which destroys the surrounding environment. These plants also consume a large amount of water. A common cause of thermal pollution is the use of water as a coolant by power plants and industrial manufacturers. When water used as a coolant is returned to the natural environment at a higher temperature, the sudden change in temperature decreases oxygen supply and affects ecosystem composition.

hope it helps :)

For example, poor quality of boilers and air pre-heaters could lead to high levels of erosion, corrosion, oxide deposits or leakages. All these, and many other related factors, are costly drags on the efficiencies of the thermal power plants, and consequently, also add to the environmental and social burdens.
