Ration shops in India function under the public distribution sector. Previously all ration card holders got the grains for the same price. However in the present time the grains are sold at a price depending on the poverty level of a particular person. Also ration shop keepers are not selling the grains properly. They only sell some amount of the grains provided by the FCI. They sell the rest in the market for their personal gain. Because of the irregular opening and closing of the ration shops people are not able to access the grains properly. All of these lead to the criticism of the PDS system in India of ration shops are a part of.
