The three dimensional structure of DNA(deoxyribose nucleic acid) was given by James Watson & Francis crick in 1953.They proposed that DNA polymer forms a duplex structure  consisting of 2 strands of polynucleotide chains coiled around each other in the form of a double helix. The nucleitide form the backbone of DNA structure.

When a nucleotide from the DNA containing thymine is hydrolyzed, thymine β-D-2-deoxyribose and phosphoric acid are obtained as product.
