Thank you for asking the question
Pakistan and India got separated just because of the religious conflict. Nehru decided to keep India secular in order to bind people of all sects and ethnicity together. So that religious tensions couldn't arise. He wanted to make India a nation which respects the people of all religion that i future it wont give way to the situation of anarchy on the basis of religion.
Hope it helps.
