☺️☺️The three main types, or classes, of rock are sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous and the differences among them have to do with how they are formed. Sedimentary rocks are formed from particles of sand, shells, pebbles, and other fragments of material. Together, all these particles are called sediment.☺️☺️

Sedimentary Rocks:

  • When the igneous rocks are exposed on the Earth's surface, they are broken down by the agents of weathering such as wind, ice and water into small fragments. The small fragments are called sediments.
  • They are of three types mainly based on their origin, viz., clastic sedimentary rocks (conglomerates and breccias, sandstones and mudrocks), biochemical sedimentary rocks (limestones and coals), chemical sedimentary rocks ( gypsum and rock salt).
