Explanation:

Tropical Rainforests

Hot and wet? You bet. Tropical rainforests are ecosystems located near the Earth's equator that receive between 60 and 160 inches of rain every year. A long rainy system? Not at all. Tropical rainforests get this rain month after month, fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. Most warm rainforests are found in South America, Southeast Asia and Africa.

The constant mild temperatures combined with ample moisture makes tropical rainforests an ideal living environment for many types of plants, insects and animals. In fact, you won't find a biome having greater biodiversity.

Dry Deserts

Many people who live far from deserts consider this biome a wasteland of sand and hot, drying sunlight, with perhaps a gnarled cactus or two in the landscape. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The fact is, almost 20 percent of the planet's land is desert, and not all of them are alike. Yes, a desert, by definition, gets 10 to 20 inches of rain per year, so all are dry. But you'll find that there are various types of deserts (hot and dry, semiarid, coastal and cold), and all of them teem with amazing life. Large mammals aren't desert dwellers, mainly because they don't have a system in their bodies to store water. But smaller mammals, reptiles, insects and plant life abound.

Climate comparison

The climate of the desert and the rainforest are very similar and also very different. The desert and rainforest both have a warm and hot temperatures. They are different because of the rainfall. The rainforest gets about nine feet of rain each year. The desert gets about fifteen to twenty six centimeters of rain. Temperatures for the rainforest ranges between 93 F and 68 F. Temperatures for the desert are averaged to about 64 F

Biotic Factors

The tropical rainforest has a whole variety of biotic factors. This consists of trees, such as the mangrove tree, flowers, like the passion flower, and types of grass like the floating grass. animals like monkeys and frogs. They are bacteria organisms such as fungi and mushrooms.

Physical descriptions

Although the desert is very hot and barren, it actually has a lot of things going on. The desert consists of plants such as cactus, flowers, and low trees that provide shade. Also the desert has animals such as lizards, camels, goats, and much more. The desert has mushrooms and lots of other fungi and bacteria that helps life survive in the harsh climate.

Food Web

The desert has very few plant life. It is very sandy with no large trees or water sources. Deserts are very barren with some mountains and canyons.

Abiotic factors

Unlike deserts, rain forests are full of life and lots of water sources. Although rainforests and deserts are very different, they do have something in common. They both have mountains and steep canyons.

Food webs usually have 5 levels of animals and plants. First, the producers are the bottom of the web, for example, the sun produces light for the grass. Second, primary consumers are the insects, deer, monkeys, and kangaroos. Third, we have the secondary consumers. These consist of spiders, frogs, fish, and insect eating birds. Fourth, we have the tertiary consumers. These consumers consist of rats, mice, small snakes, and birds. Finally we have the last consumer. The quaternary consumers are at the top of the food web. These consist of tigers, large cats, sharks, and crocodiles.

The desert's abiotic factors consist of a variety of things such as sand, water, rock, air, temperature, and sunlight. The rain forest's abiotic factors are different but also similar. The rain forests consist of sunlight, temperature, soil, water, weather, and rock.

Fun Facts!

Human Impact

There are many interesting and very cool facts about the desert and the rainforest.

Sometimes us humans can get a little out of hand with things. Such as ruining the environment and destroying things that are important to our planet. Sadly, these things happen in the rainforest and desert. Human impact on the rainforest is a huge problem. The kind of human impact is deforestation. People are cutting down trees in the rainforest for wood and paper. This is destroying homes for native people and habitats for the animals. The desert also has human impact on it. One of the things is off roading. The tires of the vehicle ruin the soil and destroy any vegetation in its path.
