b. Novels in Bengali- Novels which depicted past accounts created a sense of cultural belonging and association among the people For instance, many Bengali novels contained heroic stories of Rajputs and Marathas.
Bhudeb Mukhopadhyay’s Anguriya Binimoy, was the first historic novel, which helped in creating a sense of pride among the Indians, as it glorified India's past. Many early Bengali novels were rooted in past, the novels focussed on historical events, processes, characters, love stories romances from the past.
Another group of novels focussed on domestic life rooted in contemporary period. They focussed on domestic life, social problems and relationships.Earlier Bengali novels used colloquial style, using meyli language .Later prose style was introduced and became popular with Bankim chandra chatterjee's writings. It had a more vernacular tinge and style associated with it. We may give example of Bankim's novel Durgeshnandini, which he read out in a gathering.Later writing novels in a more simple style became popular with Sarat Chandra's wrtings.
