What are the socio economic advantages of inter linking of rivers in India

the benefits are : 
                         1) IRRIGATION : By linking rivers vast amount of land areas will be irrigated and land will become fertile .
                    
                         2) FLOOD PREVENTION :  During heavy rainy seasons  some areas can experience a heavy flood while other areas might be drought like situations . With network of rivers this problem can be greatly avoided by channeling excess water to the areas that are not experienced flood or dry .
 
                               3) GENERATION OF ELECTRICITY : With new canals built , feasibility of new dams to generate hydroelectric power becomes  a possibility .
                          
                               4) NAVIGATION: Newly created network of canals open up new routes and ways , routes that of water navigation , which is generally more cheaper and efficient compared to road transport .
