The news of detection of gravitational waves is not a rumour. You can see LIGO confirming this on their official site. And such a renowned organization won't and can't lie about these things, don't you think? Please don't ruin this amazing breakthrough.......no hard feelings though!

Answer:

On 15 June 2016, LIGO announced the detection of a second gravitational wave event, recorded on 26 December 2015, at 3:38 UTC. Analysis of the observed signal indicated that the event was caused by the merger of two black holes with masses of 14.2 and 7.5 solar masses, at a distance of 1.4 billion light years.
