The genus names of the stages of hominid development include: Dryopithecus, Ramapithecus, Australopithecus, Homo Erectus, Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis, and Homo Sapiens Sapiens. Millions of years ago, Dryopithecus walked the earth. This was a type of ape found within Europe, Africa, and parts of Asia. The Ramapithecus were similar, but they adapted to their environments. This species had stronger jaws and a more upright posture than their predecessors. The Australopithecus walked upright, and it's been discovered that this species used tools and weaponry made of stone to hunt.

Homo Erectus species walked upright, lived in caves, used stones and tools and weaponry, and appears to be the first species to use fire as a tool. Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis adapted from the Homo Erectus species. At this point, man was primitive. This was nearly 75,000 years ago. They adapted other tools, like axes, to live. Then, 35,000 years ago, Homo Sapiens Sapiens developed. This is what we know as modern man. The fossils and bones found of the earliest humans show that this species had chins, rounded skulls, and reduced jaws. And, the rest, thus far, is history
