Steps taken by the British government with regard to the nomads and pastoralists:

The steps taken by the "British government" changed the life of nomads and pastoralists drastically. They were pushed into a very miserable condition.

The actions of Britishers towards them are:

  • They converted most of the grazing land as agricultural farms.
  • Various forest acts were passed and many areas and forest which was full of resources were marked as “Reserved” and entry to such places was restricted for nomads and Pastoralists.
  • The wandering activity of nomads was considered as a crime and punishable offense.
  • The Britishers made all the activity pertaining to nomads and pastoralist as a taxable event and imposed a tax for each and every activity associated with them.
