1. Artistic freedom - freedom of art is very important. The nightingale is a free bird and flies over lakes , trees and the green rice fields and composes beautiful songs. However on being caged it is unabe to sing songs as its freedom is snatched.
2. Freedom of animals : animals are not meant to be caged. No matter how much we take care of the animal, we must remember that we are taking away its freedom without which they cannot survive. It is cruel to cage animals.
3. Jealousy - this story also deals with the theme of jealousy. The 8 sisters of princess september are jealous of her nightingale which can sing the most beautiful songs whereas their own parrots can only say' pretty polly' and ' god save the king '. Moreover the king himself is very amused to see the nightingale and is bored of the parrots.
